Why is my COMPASS's battery draining quickly and showing a "?" icon?

If you see a "?" icon, the GPS may be locked and your COMPASS may need calibration. Calibrating the COMPASS will restore normal GPS function and help improve battery life.

To calibrate the COMPASS, press and hold the left center button to open the calibration screen and follow the on-screen instructions.

Can I view maps on the COMPASS handheld?

You'll see live compass tracking on the handheld. For full maps and track lines, use the PATHFINDER2 app on your mobile device.

Does the handheld have a compass?

Yes, the handheld has a 3-axis compass built in to help track direction, even while you're moving.

What kind of fence or boundary tracking features are available?

When paired with the app, you get access to advanced features like: E-Fence, Geo-Fence, and Mobile Fence for tracking boundaries.

What's the range of the COMPASS handheld?

Depending on the receiver you pair with:

What's the difference between Select One and Override Mode?

Select One lets you assign up to four corrections to each button. You control one dog at a time—the selected dog on the screen receives the correction, and the buttons follow that dog until you switch to another.

Override Mode allows you to assign corrections to each dog, with up to 4-dogs max. Unassigned dogs will receive live compass tracking only.

How many dogs can be corrected using Override Mode?

You can use Override Mode with up to four dogs. Any unassigned dogs can still be tracked live, but they won’t receive corrections.

Is the COMPASS compatible with my existing PATHFINDER2 system?

Yes! The handheld works with all PATHFINDER2 receivers.

Will the handheld replace my existing PATHFINDER2 connector?

If you already have a PATHFINDER2 system, all you need is the new Compass Handheld and that will be your new connector. You do not need the old connector. Remember, do not pair two connectors to a collar.

Can I use the COMPASS with my PATHFINDER1?

No, the PATHFINDER1 is not compatible with the COMPASS. You can trade in your PATHFINDER1 for credit toward the purchase of PATHFINDER2 MINI COMPASS

You would need the app to set it up initially and to adjust any settings. After that, it operates as a standalone handheld with limited features. If you want to view your map, you can do so through the PATHFINDER2 app.

"Like the product. I have a new pup that I want to keep track of. I think Dogtra has the longest lasting and most reliable collars. That is why I bought the compass. My pup needed the mini version because of size. After getting the compass I was happy with the antenna. The dog has no issues with it. I wanted To be able to find this young dog and compass will do that. I have ran the 2500 series for 20 plus years and my original collar still works flawlessly. That is why I decided on the compass for my first gps collar. If I could ask for one thing it would be a beeper in the collar. My dogs were trained that one beep was just to find out where they were in the heavy cover and multiple beeps were to come back to me. I know that I can now "see" where the dog is, but it is hard to change what I am used to."

"So far the buttons are perfectly responsive. Ive had the original PF2 with the one-button since about when it came out. Decided I needed a field trainer for bird season this year and discovered this upgrade. Seems like it will work just fine for my casual hunting use. In the meantime it’s perfect for managing 3 dogs on a big farm. Really nice to not have to dig my phone out for 99% of practical use. One improvement would be only in the software. I can think of 3 paths to different settings light, tone, button, etc: device list for some, general settings for others, and through the E-Collar pane’s subtle device button for others. Still a strong buy, but could make this part less aggravating."

Great combo GPS + E-collar

"I got the Compass so my dog could have freedom to roam our 20 acres, know where he is at all times, and not need a second e-collar. So far it’s been great! - The e-collar functions work like they’re supposed to. We previously used the Dogtra CUE 2, so this was an easy transition. - We use the Mini PF receiver for the 45 lb dog… it’s a little bulky but fits okay. The battery only lasts one full day or so on the Mini for me. After 15-18 hrs, it is usually down to 20-40%, using a 6-10 sec GPS update. - The full size PF receiver seems to last for a few days, but we haven’t put it to the test yet. - The tracking and compass functions have been accurate. It’s nice to immediately know he is X yards and in which direction. The limitation of “within 30 ft” is a little annoying, but is sufficient for the terrain we’re usually in. - The Mobile Fence and Geo-Fence seem to work well so far. I set my boundary, synced it to the collar, and it alerts me when the dog exits/enters the area. I have not yet used the E-Fence, but look forward to the option for when we’re traveling etc. - The screen setup and function buttons are totally customizable, which is awesome. It’s easy to change in the app. - One thing I don’t love is that the stim level dial is very easy to bump and accidentally change. There is a way to lock it, but it takes up one of the four function buttons. - I wish it would stop asking me to save a truck marker. - I initially had trouble connecting the unit to GPS if the app/phone wasn’t connected. Customer service was fantastic, and the new firmware update resolved that issue completely! Thanks, Tyler!"

"Much, much better than my old Garmin Alpha systems that wore out quickly - I had two complete systems for two dogs. The Garmin systems had terrible support and were hard to update. This system is much more intuitive, the screen is easier to read, the pointer is more accurate, and the app is great."

"We tried multiple systems to keep our dogs contained in our yard, but still needed an easy way to recall them. The compass with the app is the best of both worlds and exactly what we needed. We haven’t had a single issue with the gps signal and the dogs learned within a day or 2 not to continue if they were being paged. I love that it tracks their whereabouts and also their miles per day. I had no idea one of our girls is running over 20 miles in one day!! The only downfall is needing to have whatever device the app is on be close to the remote, but I put it on an iPad and leave it in the house."

Game changer!

"This is my 3rd Dogtra collar, and by far my favorite! Started with a 200c in 2020, heavily used including at the beach daily. Still works perfectly! Upgraded to 1902 Handsfree in 2023 for multiple dogs as our pack grew, also heavily used in the field and salt water. Still works perfectly! So when our underground fencing system was struck by lightning I started researching geofencing and e fencing options. I made the mistake of buying one that begins with “H” and it was ridiculously expensive, inaccurate, and confusing to the dogs (& me)! As a heavy user with multiple dogs I knew we needed a more serious system, this collar checks all the boxes! Training, tracking, containment. The ability to pair with phone (and surprise my Apple Watch) is a total game changer! I have only had the collars for a week, but am very happy with the quality and technology. Have used multiple geofences, mobile fence, and e fence in both wooded and marsh and have not been disappointed! The only thing I have noticed that would be a nice upgrade is that each time you pair the handheld with your phone you have to reprogram the layout for multiple dogs, would be nice if the profile could be saved, but it is easy to setup so I can live with it!"
