E-Collar Basics
E
A training device worn around a dog's neck that delivers stimulation (such as static correction, vibration, or tone) to aid in training or behavior correction.
R
The collar that sits on the dog's neck and delivers stimulation. It receives signals from the transmitter.
S
The signal sent by the transmitter to the collar. Can be static correction, vibration, or an audible tone.
T
The handheld device the trainer or handler uses to send signals to the receiver collar.
Stimulation & Training
B
A pre-set increase in stimulation level used for emergency or high-distraction situations. Delivers a stronger correction than the current setting with one press.
C
A static signal that stays on as long as the remote button is held or up to 12 seconds.
N
A very quick burst of static correction, regardless of how long the button is pressed.
P
Vibration-only stimulation.
S
A low-level electrical pulse used to get the dog's attention or correct behavior. Often adjustable in intensity.
A knob or dial used to fine-tune the level of stimulation on the transmitter.
The adjustable intensity of static correction, usually on a scale from 1 to 100 or similar.
T
An audible sound emitted by the collar. Can be used as a warning, recall signal, or training marker.
V
A non-electrical form of stimulation using a vibrating motor in the collar. Used as a warning or cue.
W
The lowest level of stimulation that the dog can feel and respond to.
Collar Components
C
Non-metal contact points made of conductive plastic, often used for dogs with sensitive skin or allergies.
The metal tips on the receiver that touch the dog's neck and deliver static stimulation.
D
Non-metal, non-functional prongs used to fill the contact slots when stimulation is not needed. Useful for tone/vibration-only training or collar desensitization.
E
A contact pad designed to increase comfort and reduce pressure on the dog's neck. Made with a flat, low-profile surface to improve fit and reduce skin irritation, especially for long-term wear or dogs with sensitive skin. Compatible with select models.
L
A small light on the receiver collar that shows charging status, pairing status, or stimulation delivery.
A built-in light on the receiver collar for visibility in low light. Controlled via the transmitter or app.
T
Strong, lightweight prongs made from titanium that offer corrosion resistance and hypoallergenic benefits for dogs with sensitive skin or metal allergies.
Safety & Protection
C
Refers to how snugly the receiver collar is placed on the dog's neck. Proper fit ensures effective stimulation and safety.
I
A high waterproof rating meaning the device can withstand high-pressure, high-temperature water jets and full submersion.
L
A safety feature allowing the user to lock in a specific stimulation level to prevent accidental increases.
P
Skin damage caused by prolonged pressure from the contact points, typically from an overly tight or long-worn collar.
S
An automatic feature that stops stimulation after a certain time (usually 12 seconds) to protect the dog.
W
Protected against light moisture like rain or splashes but not safe for full submersion.
Designed to resist water damage during use in rain, wet terrain, or full submersion.
Features & Accessories
B
An automatic collar that delivers correction when it detects barking.
H
A small button that pairs with the transmitter, allowing the trainer to deliver stimulation without holding the main transmitter.
A stronger, more noticeable vibration used in premium Dogtra models to give a clearer non-static cue to the dog.
L
Collars with a wide range of static stimulation from low to high levels. Designed for larger breeds, working dogs, or very stubborn dogs who require stronger correction while still providing gentle lower levels for basic training.
The range of stimulation levels designed for dogs that require gentler correction. Low-medium output collars provide effective but milder static stimulation.
M
A setup where one transmitter controls two or more receiver collars.
P
The process of syncing a transmitter to a specific receiver so they can communicate.
R
The maximum distance the transmitter can communicate with the receiver, measured in yards or miles.
S
A charging accessory that allows both the transmitter and receiver(s) to be charged from the same wall outlet.
T
A small light used to test whether the collar is emitting static properly.
V
A system using GPS to create invisible boundaries. The collar delivers stimulation if the dog crosses the boundary.
X
Dogtra-exclusive vibration mode delivering a powerful, high-output vibration designed to be stronger and more noticeable than standard vibration or even HPP (High Performance Pager).
