Why can't I get updates when I leave home? Is it still working?

Yes — your GPS Fence is still working, even when you’re away. Once you set up your virtual fence, the app doesn’t need to stay open for it to work. The app only sends updates when you’re close to the collar (about 33 feet) using Bluetooth. When you come back within range, it will update and show your daily history.

Does it have real-time tracking?

There is no real-time tracking. However, after use, you can check the movement route and distance on the map in the app's history.

Is there a monthly subscription fee?

No, our app does not have a subscription and all features will be available.

Why 3/4-acres minimum? Can I use it on 1/2-acre?

On smaller acres, these zones can get compressed and may not give your dog enough space to learn and respond on the warnings. The system works best when there's enough space in between each safety zone.

Why can't I use it indoors?

The collar uses GPS, which needs a clear view of the sky to work. When you're inside, walls and ceilings block the GPS signals, which will confuse the collar and make it think your dog has left the safe zone.

How many collars can I pair to my device?

You can pair up to 3 collars per each device. To purchase additional collars, you will need to purchase another Dogtra GPS Fence unit.

What types of correction settings are available?

There are four modes of correction settings, which include: Continuous stimulation, Pager vibration, Tone, and No correction.

How accurate is the GPS?

GPS is usually accurate within 3-15 feet. Set up your fence in a wide, open area with a clear view of the sky for best results.

What is the Warning Zone and Backup Fence?

The warning zone is a 5–15-yard area inside the primary fence that gives pre-alerts. The backup fence is an additional virtual fence outside the primary, set within 10–50m or 20–300m ranges.

How do I set up a virtual fence?

In the app, select 'Add Virtual Fence' and draw either a custom (up to 25 posts) or circular (diameter of 12m to 4km) fence. After saving, update the collar with the new fence info.

"I had to import my Dogtra collar all the way to South Africa, so it took a bit of time to arrive, but honestly the whole experience was good — especially considering it was the first product I’ve ever imported myself. The fence works really well. It’s accurate, easy to set up, and it contains my GSP perfectly. Training him with it was also surprisingly easy, which was such a relief because anyone with a German Shorthaired Pointer knows how energetic they can be 😅. It really gives me peace of mind knowing he’s safe. The collar has also held up well so far — even the waterproofing is doing its job. This model doesn’t have live tracking, but I knew that from the start when I bought it, so no complaints there. Overall I’m really happy with the product and would definitely recommend it. If you ever need a promoter in South Africa, count me and my GSP in! He even has a Border Collie brother, and I’m already considering getting a second collar."

"We have purchased a dogtra collar in the past for hunting and when our yellow English lab Archie kept running off at our new house we knew we needed a solution. We explored the options Dogtra had and were very pleasantly surprised at their price point given the high quality of the product that we had experienced with our hunting collar. We received the GPS fence collar this past week and set it up this weekend. It works great!!! So so incredibly happy to have this collar and looking forward to being able to let my over ambitious Labrador run free on our property without worrying about him going too far or in the road. Good but. . .

"Bought this to replace an existing collar. . . we bought this because it would track where our dog has gone. We live in the countey and own 9+ acres, so knowing where she visits often could be useful. Tonight, we installed the app on my wife's phone but it erased all of the data associated to it. When i went into my phone, the app said it was already linked to another phone and i could not connect to the collar. Even after exiting the app on her phone and turning off Bluetooth, it said it wasnt able to connect to the collar. I had. to delete and re-add the collar on my phone to get it to work. It. appears that only one phone/device can attach to the collar. Not sure why that is but it sure. would be nice if both of us could access the collar. Especially if one of us is out of town. This is the only downside i see with the collar/app. If i can figure out how to get a 2nd device to access the collar. . . i will give it 5stars."

Accurate collar to keep the dogs in.

"I use this collar for my livestock guardian dog. I Actually have 3 guardian dogs and have three spot on collars, two halo 4 collars and 3 Tractive collars. Those other collars are quite expensive and require subscription if you want notification and tracking. The Dogtra collar appears to be quite accurate which is most important to me. I use it only occasionally when I am switching out my perimeter collars to keep the dogs in boundary. (They live with sheep on 160 acres no fences). I can use this collar in conjunction with my Tractive and, by using both, I can track my dog and I have an affordable perimeter Collar. My only gripe is that I wish there were more than one size. My dogs are very large and the GPS often falls to the side of the neck and not face the sky which will affect accuracy. That said, overall still works well."

Only negative is the very short battery life!

"I love this collar. I have GSP and she would break through the other collar barriers, but this one she's had no issue with. If the battery lasted longer than 30 hours, I would give it 5 stars! I wish there was an external battery pack. If it weren't so expensive of a unit, I would probably tear the collar apart and make a larger external battery. Now I've gotta buy 2 so that I can change them out each day. There's gotta be a better way!"
